KUNDALINI YOGA

Kundalini Yoga, often called the “yoga of awareness,” is a powerful and transformative style of yoga that combines physical postures (asanas), dynamic breathing techniques (pranayama), hand positions (mudras), chanting (mantras), meditation, and deep relaxation. Unlike many other forms of yoga that primarily focus on physical flexibility or alignment, Kundalini Yoga works directly with the subtle energy system of the body, aiming to awaken the dormant spiritual energy known as Kundalini that is said to reside coiled at the base of the spine (in the root chakra).

When this energy rises safely through the central energy channel (sushumna nadi) and pierces the seven main chakras, it can lead to expanded states of consciousness, profound healing, emotional release, and spiritual enlightenment. (Previously it had been a closely guarded secret tradition in India).A typical Kundalini Yoga class, called a kriya, is intense and highly structured: it usually begins with tuning in with the mantra ,followed by warm-up exercises, a specific sequence of postures and breathwork designed to target particular glands, organs, or energy patterns, intense breathing techniques like Breath of Fire, deep meditation (often with specific mantras and a long savasana with sound healing.

8Practitioners frequently report experiences like spontaneous crying, shaking, heat rising up the spine, visions, emotional breakthroughs, or sudden clarity—phenomena collectively called “kundalini awakening symptoms.” While incredibly uplifting and life-changing for many, the practice is also known for being psychologically and energetically intense, so traditional teachings emphasize the importance of a living teacher, a strong nervous system, and gradual preparation to avoid overwhelming or unbalanced awakenings. Today it remains one of the fastest-growing styles of yoga worldwide because of its rapid effects on stress, anxiety, addiction recovery, and spiritual opening.
